Acrylic Pour Painting #3: the Swipe Technique

Wednesday, December 96:30—7:30 PMZoom

What is Pour Painting? We will explore this fun painting technique and do one easy technique! Can't promise you won't get messy! It may be best to prepare your painting area ahead of time with protective materials, such as newspaper, packing paper, painter's cloth, or garbage bags, for easy cleanup. And remember to wear old clothing just in case you get paint on yourself.

This is a virtual event for adults; teens are also welcome.

Pour Painting kits will be available for the first 20 registrants. The first 20 registrants will be emailed when kits will be available for pickup, starting the week before the event (Wednesday, December 2 - Wednesday, December 9). If kits are not picked up in this time, they will be made available for those waiting on the wait list.

If you end up on the waiting list, you will still be invited to join the live virtual event, we just have a limited number of kits to provide. This painting class will be recorded and posted on our YouTube Channel.

If you have supplies at home and either do not receive a kit, or do not need a kit, this is what we will be using:

Pour Painting Kit Supply List

  • 1- 8” x 10” pre-gessoed canvas (found at Walmart)
  • Containers of Pour Medium
  • Cups (for mixing paint & medium together, separate colors; 1 big one for pouring, and extra cups for holding up the canvas as a base)

  • (6) Popsicle (or craft) sticks for stirring paint & medium together
  • A Powerpoint note packet

Other materials you will need on Wednesday that are not included in the kit:

  • An apron you can wear to protect your clothing, that you don’t care about getting paint on
  • A tarp, dollar store shower curtain, or garbage bag to cover your furniture or floor, or wherever you plan to do the pour painting to protect from splatters and run off.

Materials you could use on Wednesday, but are not required or included in this kit:

  • A strainer to pout through you don’t mind ruining
  • A drying rack
  • A tray large enough to hold your canvas, to do the pour painting in, but has raised sides to contain paint (or use a big enough box)

  • A butane torch or hair dryer you don’t mind getting paint on, to create cells in the paint
  • Tooth picks to create lines in the pour painting

If you would like Katie's powerpoint presentation emailed to you, please send her an email: krothley@lyon.lib.mi.us.
