Tuesday, April 206:30—8:00 PMZoom

Presented by Donna Simons.

Donna will show us a powerpoint presentation with photographs from Michigan Technological University along with a short video about the Copper Country. She will discuss the 1913 copper mining labor strike in Michigan's Upper Peninsula and how it led to a tragedy on Christmas Eve and kill 73 people, most of them children.

Donna has published a novel, Copper Empire, which-is set in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. She has a strong connection to the Copper Country because her grandmother was born and raised in Houghton and told her many stories of what life was like in that region. She enjoys traveling to the Copper Country every summer.
